It had been a long day for Theodore but it wasn't over yet. He'd needed the sleep, the rest and to forcibly yank all his marbles back into a semi-coherent line before he could do anything like sensible behaviour, but he got there. He hadn't so much laid out his plans as he'd slipped away in an obvious manner so that his friend's would know he was okay but just that he'd had to go.
He didn't want to head back to the Nott House, and apart from Draco's place he had limited places to go, but there was a place he thought might do something for him and the bad day he was having. Still dressed in his boy-form's clothes and sock feet charmed at the bottom to act as shoes, he cut an odd figure but he moved like everything was normal and as such no one paid him much attention. He made his way back to the Three Broomsticks but slow, meandering through Hogsmeade, catching his reflection in windows and feeling startled at his new appearance each time. He drew a couple of looks that were simple curiosity at a pretty girl in plain and shapeless clothes but some that were more the kind imagining what could be under the hooded jumper and jogging bottoms. He didn't understand the first, used to slipping through a crowd unseen, but he'd been subjected to the second more than he cared to have been; so much so that he was more used to seeing that look turned on him from his father than any parental pride.
It was strange that although his body was supposed to be more vulnerable, women were always seen as weak and frail, that he didn't feel as exposed and bared in this form as he did under those looks as a boy. Then again, they still made him feel sick and dirty and the nightmares he'd have later would prove to be even more vivid and graphic than usual. He pulled the hood of the jumper up and over his head and tried to duck in to the Three Broomsticks only to find it a hive of activity that he wasn't prepared to breach, not wanting to fight through the Ministry of Magic members, locals and the bastard press.
He turned around and, intentions thwarted, turned to wander away from the pub to see if he could fill his evening with something else, maybe drop by to pick up some more chocolate to replace what he took from Pansy (and then some) and something for Draco to apologise for, well, he'd lost track by now so he'd just go with the immediate 'freaking out and disrupting the morning'.

It must have been frightful to wake up and not recognize your own body. She couldn't imagine it. She depended on the reliability of her own size and form to get through her apartment. If she suddenly didn't have that ... well, it would have been a terrible nightmare.
Setting down her journal, the braille markings brushing against her fingertips as she moved to close it, Evy had decided that after so much negative news within the small book, it was best to do something to brighten the day. She'd received an extra day off for the coming week, in repercussion for the incident with the Smart Answer quill. Instead of being disappointed, she looked to the silver lining. At least now, she could get a little more fresh air. It had been a long time since she'd made a trip up to Hogsmeade and today looked like the perfect day to go. She did have the time, after all.
Bundling herself up for the cooler weather, Evy prepared herself for an outing. She was not as familiar with Hogsmeade as she was with Diagon Alley, so she would need the extra assistance and pleasant company of Bella, her faithful black lab. The moment she'd put her coat on, Bella had instantly perked up. "Yes, yes, you're going too," she laughed, reaching down to find her head and scratch behind her soft ear. She was forever being told not to treat Bella like a pet, but she simply couldn't help it. She had magic, if worse came to worse, to guide her. Magic could not, however, give her a companion. So while Bella was suppose to be a guide, she was more of a friend.
Trained and fully used to the use of magic, Bella didn't react when the two apparated into Hogsmeade. There were few places she could apparate to, but Hogsmeade was one of them. It was a place she'd visited before and could still picture the streets in her mind. Loosening her hold on Bella's leash, she turned toward the sound of voices and started in that direction. She'd just reached the main street when Bella tugged a bit too hard on the leash and it slipped through Evy's fingers.
"Bella!" she called, somewhat exasperated by the dogs exuberance. She was much too friendly and enjoyed the fact that there were so many people around. Following her happy barks, Evy used her charmed walking stick to navigate her way around objects and people until she found her runaway friend. "What has gotten into you, silly dog!" It was then she heard the shuffling of another set of feet not so far from her own and she put two and two together. "Oh, I'm sorry. I hope she didn't frighten you. She's really just curious."

He rarely showed outward warmth or enthusiasm as a rule and his disinterest in the everyday plights of his fellow students made it seem that he would likewise be indifferent to either the whimper or wag of a puppy, or the scream or purr of a kitten. In reality, animals were like a doorway into the secret parts of Theo that he usually fought to keep protected by cynicism and withdrawal; his fascination with thestrals, his dotage on his black barn owl Elsbeth, the way that stray cats seem attracted to him like he carries sardines in his pockets. Silent and guileless and lacking deceit, animals were so purely and simply what they were that the near-constant paranoia the boy carried with him wasn't needed and he had the space to breathe and let himself trust an animal to be an animal.
He had a softer spot for cats than dogs, but a friendly dog come to say hi was something he nearly couldn't resist. He stooped a little, aware again of the changes to his body, but reaching out to offer a flat hand to be snuffled at before he dared reach to rub over an ear as soft as no velvet could ever be. "Hey you." he said to it softly, not wishing to startle although the dog didn't seem to hold any such concerns, boisterous and barking. It prompted a sudden and small but genuine laugh from the blond and it was clear from the look of surprise that Theo hadn't been expecting it himself. The arrival of what Theo assumed to be the dog's owner disrupted the innocent pleasure of the moment but the dog's being there still had a good influence on the changed boy.
He'd seen the signs that the dog was a seeing eye animal but he left any possible questions about the dog's owner's sight unsaid. It certainly wasn't his place to pry. "It's okay, she didn't scare me." he reassured the stranger, his words a little halting as he didn't recognise the sound of his own voice for a split second before remembering his situation again. "She's wonderful. I haven't spoken to a dog in a long while."
There had always been dogs around the house when he was a boy; the Crups, mostly used for hunting, tended to be kept in a pack and bedded down in a purpose-built shed together, more working tools than pets. His father had a couple pairs of giant, leggy, deerhounds loping around the place too, as well as two absolutely massive molosser breeds, heavy and jowly and allowed to roam the grounds at night causing rumours of Barghests and chasing unwanted strays from the property grounds. By the time his dad had gone to prison for the first time the family had been dogless for a couple of years. His father had become isolated and withdrawn and most of the Crups had been sold to breeders or given away. The remaining dogs had sometimes met natural ends, but Theo had seen his father take the expression 'kick the cat' to inhumane and unbearable levels on the dogs and most had perished under his wand. He appreciated someone who took care of their animals - and this dog looked like a shining example of good pet ownership - and believed that it said a lot about what a person truly was.

Date: 2013-04-12 07:09 pm (UTC)She hadn't assumed herself much of a dog person before she'd been given Bella, but now that they were comfortable with each other, Evy couldn't imagine not having her around. "Bella would like to speak to everyone if she could," she laughed lightly, her tone holding fond amusement. "Just like a child. Curious and more curious. I don't think she can help it."
Now that she had the attention of not one, but two individuals, Bella had stopped her barking, but her tail still thumped happily against the side of Evy's leg as she enjoyed the attention. Like Bella, Evy was just as content to talk to a complete stranger. It didn't even phase her that perhaps this individual had been in the middle of her own errands. It was simply nice to have someone to talk to.
"Unfortunately, she hasn't been out in a while and got rather excited at the prospect of new faces," Evy responded, her tone suggesting that it was an amusing thing to have done, despite the fact that Evy was no longer certain where she was in the small village.

"Curiouser and curiouser." he echoed absently before looking back at the girl. "She hasn't been out in a while?" it seemed that echoes were his friends today, or rather more crutch than friend. Navigating the world as a girl while having just had a panic attack meant that he could use all the help he could get being social, and if that meant he had to magpie conversation then so be it. He thought he liked the girl who seemed to be able to see around things better than he did even without sight and didn't want to make her think he wasn't interested in talking with her just because of her disability.

Date: 2013-04-12 07:09 pm (UTC)Even know Evy didn't quite understand how Bella recognized the times when she needed to be alert and by Evy's side and when she didn't need to be. It was part of the reason it was hard for her to think of Bella as anything more than a pet. Don't get her wrong, she appreciated the assistance Bella offered her and knew she'd have a much harder time of it without her, but ... well, she didn't really know how to explain it. It just was ... she supposed.
"We were actually heading down to Honeydukes," she responded, slipping her hand through the handle at the end of Bella's leash, "If you'd like to come." It didn't at all occur to her that she probably shouldn't be asking a stranger to tag along with her. "I could use the company as I'm no longer sure exactly where I am."

"I don't know if that helps? I can walk us there, if you would like me to, I wouldn't want to over step or anything." he said carefully, hoping not to offend or imply that she wasn't capable.
